17 weeks!

How can time fly and come to a crawl at the same time?? Get pregnant.

I can't believe how far along we've come and how much more we have to go. I feel like last week we just found out and now I am not too far from half-way along! I also feel like September is so far away, yet I don't have enough time to get prepared!

Baby's now the size of an onion! Baby's skeleton is hardening, changing from rubbery cartilage to bone, and fat is finally accumulating around it. His umbilical cord is getting thicker and stronger, and those little fingers and toes now feature one-of-a-kind prints.

Though increased blood flow is good for baby, it might be making you a little...damp. Body secretions (think sweat, mucus, nosebleeds, and vaginal discharge) are in full force. This week might also mark the first time you feel baby move inside you, but don't worry if it's another two months before you notice anything. (Or realize that this time, it's actually not gas.)

Here's the progress so far:

Pregnancy: 17 weeks

Weight Gain: Still at starting weight. I'm rocking and rolling with the weight taken at the doctors office a mere week ago. My scale at home is a 3 pound (lighter) difference for what the doctor reports- but I'm ok with that.

Sleep: Hmph!

Gender: Team Green

Name: Still throwing around ideas.

Feeling: I really don't like complaining about it but I am still freaking tired! I think it now it has less to do with the pregnancy and more to do with my inability to get a good night's sleep.

Health: Backaches still exist but it's improving. I'm not as diligent with my pelvic exercises but they are beneficial.

Movement: Who knows what's going on in there... I don't. I look forward to the day when I can tell gas from hunger from baby.

Belly: I forgot to get mom's measuring tape. On top of that I haven't done laundry in a minute so my only 4 pairs of comfy/maternity pants are in the hamper :( I tried stuffing myself into my baggiest work pants today, along with my Beband and the band gave up and laughed at me. Weekend laundry and some shopping it is!

Next Appointment:  Level II ultrasound is April 18 and 20 week appointment is April 22.

Sorry folks, no picture this week.

The 30-day challenge

For the month of April, I think I am going to try something a little different with my blog. Bring on the 30-day challenge! While many of you come here to exclusively hear read about my journey from Mrs. to Mom- I'm starting to get a little bored with reports of my bloat, back aches, and uncomfortableness. So, I'm going to spice it up a little. I first heard about the 30-day challange through facebook. Apparently, there is a 30 day photo challenge going on. So, I scoured the internet to find a 30 blog challenge of my own. There are so many variations of this so I chose something more manageable for me. Here is what you can look forward to:

Day 1 – your favorite song
Day 2 – your favorite movie
Day 3 – your favorite television program
Day 4 – your favorite book
Day 5 – your favorite quote
Day 6 – 20 of my favorite things
Day 7 – a photo that makes you happy

Day 13 – a fictional book
Day 14 – a non-fictional book
Day 15 – your dream house
Day 16 – a song that makes you cry (or nearly)
Day 17 – an art piece (drawing, sculpture, painting, etc)
Day 18 – my wedding/future wedding/past wedding
Day 19 – a talent of yours
Day 20 – a hobby of yours

Sweet Dreams

Thanks to the lovely ladies over at The Bump, I recently purchased the Snoogle body pillow. This pillow has been a HUGE help during the night. The product description doesn't do this pillow justice:

"The patented Snoogle by Leachco is a full-body solution for expectant moms that replaces the arsenal of pillows you otherwise have to use to get comfy. The Snoogle supports your back to prevent sciatica and lower back pain, tucks between your knees for help with back pain and temperature control, cradles your tummy, and props up your head to aid in breathing and help prevent heartburn and other pregnancy pitfalls."

I definitely went from sleeping with five pillows down to one. It was especially instrumental with easing some of my back pain- so when I wake up I'm not in pain, however in still returns during the day. The only downfall is that my husband thinks he's been replaced. He's resolved to "fighting this pillow in the streets" once the baby is born. It's true. I can't cuddle with him at night anymore because the pillow gets in the way.  Just look:

It's as HUGE as it looks. The four of us all fit in our queen size bed together- hubby, me, baby, and pillow- but sometimes it can get a little tight during the night when every "gets comfortable". You know how when you fall into a deep sleep and your husband ends up with a knee in his back or an elbow in his neck... But it's working for me so it's staying. My next goal is pelvic exercises to strengthen my back muscles and relieve the pain. The problem is actually doing them, because I'd rather just lounge on the couch.

Over the weekend, my cousin made apple cobbler so tonight you'll find me on the couch with a bowl of apple cobbler and cool whip (after my pelvic exercises of course!)

16 weeks!

Ahhh 4 months :)

I patiently (somewhat) waited for weeks to check up on our little one. The baby still has a strong heartbeat which she found immediately! The doctor says it's in the 140-150's- so according to the old wives tale if the fetal heart beat is below 140 it's a boy- above 140, a girl! So, we will test this theory since at the last couple of appointments it's been above 140.

My SIL pressured me (lol!) into doing a belly pic. There's a little bump there however, if you ask my family, I'm huge! Strangers probably think I have a beer belly. As long as it keeps growing I'm cool. So, since my SIL okayed the baby bump and in honor of my baby's gestational age of 4 months, I'm finally posting a belly pic. Deep breath in, then let it all out!

So here is what baby is looking like this week:

Pregnancy: 16 weeks

Weight Gain: -1 pound. Yep! I'm back to my starting weight

Sleep: Still not the best but the Snoogle has been a big help... more about that later.

Gender: Team Green

Name: not picked out

Feeling: Still lethargic. I think the baby is taking all of everything.. food, energy... everything!

Health: Still with the backaches. I use a lumbar pillow at work but my back doesn't know it.

Movement: ok, so I think I felt some flutters earlier this week. It could have been gas so only time will tell.

Belly: I think it may be actually worth measuring now. Note to self: get mom's measuring tape.

Next Appointment:  Level II ultrasound is April 18 and 20 week appointment is April 22.

And here it is folks...

The expanding wardrobe...

... literally and figuratively.

To piggy back on this thought regarding maternity fashion- I am not totally against it, but I do think there are pieces that may be a bit unflattering. There are a few items that I've found that are quite cute, but I can't bring myself to spend a lot of money on clothes that will have very limited use (with the exception of my wedding gown- which really was a gift from my mom). I will spend a great deal of summer with a baby bump. According to other moms, summers can be quite uncomfortable in the heat so a pool will probably be my best friend. Where there is a pool, there is a swimsuit...

Cute right?! It's $119...exactly! I wouldn't pay that much for a swimsuit sans baby bump! Which brings me to my next point. I have my family reunion banquet coming up. Actually I'll be 35w 2d. The theme for the weekend is denim and diamonds. How on earth am I going to find a denim maternity outfit :/ that is cute and affordable?! I must admit two weeks ago I had to break down and buy a pair of maternity jeans because wearing sweat pants was not going to cut it anymore- I eventually had to go back out in public. So, I went to Target and found a cute pair of Liz Lange maternity jeans. Not only did they fit, but they were cute! I got a lot of compliments from family member and thought- this isn't so bad. Another confession: I starting wearing maternity pants on a regular basis starting 3/14 and I don't look absolutely horrible.

So, the more I delve into this this- the more I find that maternity clothes aren't that horrible. Which brings me back to finding a something to wear during the family reunion weekend. Of all the griping I've been doing about maternity clothes, I actually like these

I know, I know... you're shaking your head at me. But what can I say, I am proud to be pregnant and very indecisive.

So my maternity clothing debate comes to a close. I need to get build a bridge and get over it!

**2 more days until I get to check on my little one!**

I thought it was supposed to be Spring!

How did we go from this...

To this....

In less than 24 hours??

The first day of Spring bought in some welcomed weather changes and then we were right back to a snowy Monday. *SIGH* At least I have my doctor's appointment to look forward to... 3 more days!

Living for the weekend!

Not only do I love that song (by the O'Jay's), I think it's my Friday theme song. I love weekends because it's a chance for me to actually do the the things that I want to do or sometimes I get to just RELAX. The work week is so full of appointments, projects, and to-do's that time flies by and you're exhausted all the time. Okay, I may be alone in this thought but oh well! I still LOVE weekends.

My weekends are usually filled with a bunch of to-do's but 98% of the time- it's something that I enjoy doing. This weekend I plan to cook the corned beef that I was supposed to for St. Patrick's day, finish up some cleaning that I didn't get to (there's that 2%) and we are going to a dinner party to celebrate my friends birthday! I also need to get to Buy, Buy, Baby and pick up the Snoogle (notice they have it $5 cheaper than BRU and I have coupons!). I am hoping that will help with my comfort level and sleep issues at night.

Today it's supposed to get up to 70 degrees where I am and that makes me very happy :) I am so done with winter. Hope you have a great weekend!

15 weeks!

I am so glad to have reached another week! And It's St. Patrick's Day! Despite being so tired, I am loving this! I forgot to take the Corned Beef out the freezer, so it looks like I'll be cooking that this weekend. Last year was my first year cooking corned beef and it came out very good- so I am looking forward to trying my luck again this year :) Although I'm not Irish- at all, in fact I am very far from it- my brother and I have red hair and freckles. Makes me wonder what my little one will have.

So on to my update...

Pregnancy: 15 weeks (still not ready to post the belly pics yet)

Weight Gain: I'm still going by the weight calculated at my docs appointment 3 weeks ago because my scale at home says something completely different- as in weight loss.

Sleep: Horrible! This has to do with many outside factors but it also takes me a long time to get comfy at night. I just recieved a few bed, bath, and beyond coupons so my weekend mission is the Snoogle.

Gender: Team Green

Name: not picked out yet- but we have narrowed down some names for each gender.

Feeling: Down right exhausted. Often, when I'm at work I can't pick myself up off my desk. I'm still feeling bloated too.

Health: The frequency of backaches has gone down and I think I've also pinpointed it to being anxiety related.

Movement: I think I felt flutters here and there but I can't be sure if it was baby movement. I can't wait until I am sure.

Belly: Still poking out! I still think I look more pregnant than I am, however my co workers did notice it the other day. Still no stretch marks and counting my blessings.

Next Appointment: 8 more days... goodness gracious. I can not wait to go see this little one again.

Here's what it's looking like on the inside...
... and I'll leave you with this:

WTH Wednesday

When you see things like this you just have to say WTF?!

Sometimes I think it's just me. But this is an actual store not too far from where I live. And just because if I were you I wouldn't believe me... here's google maps to validate:

Happy Wednesday!...the weekend is almost here and there is 9 more days until my next doctor's appointment!

Summer Fever

Yep! I'm skipping spring fever and going straight to summer! I can not wait for warm weathers, backyards bbq's and baby showers :) That's right baby showers-plural. I am one of three cousins expecting this year. so exciting for our family!!! I think I am even more excited that my little one will have two older cousins (one expected in July and one in August) to play with! It'll be fun :) At least that's what I envision... we'll sit together at church, trade baby secrets, baby sit for each other and our children will grow up best friends! I don't know if that's likely or not but it good wishful thinking :)

Anyway, I'm over the floor length bubble coats and gloves. I'm over boots and thick socks. Please bring on the flip-flops and pedicures (you can NOT have one with out the other!) the ice cream and water fights, and long nights and impromptu parties. My cousins and I are known for starting impromptu parties -usually in my aunt's backyard. Although I always fall asleep outside- I love being together with my fam and friends and we bug out and have a GOOD time. I am so looking foward to it. But for now, I'll just crack up the heat, throw on a few blankets and deal...

P.S. 9 days til our doctor's appointment!

Blogger's Block

I log into my blogger account everyday with the intention of posting, however for the last few days- this has not come to fruition.

It's not that I don't know WHAT to write about- I do. In fact I have several unpublished posts waiting to be seen. I'm just stuck in the vibe I want this blog to be. I don't know what the big deal is- there is only two people reading this (yep! two whole followers!). I think I am going back to the drawing board and figure it all out- then begin posting with a better more specified intentions.

I spent all weekend reading the content on BlogHer- which I found very helpful. I think it's going to give me a better guide as to how I can figure all of these crazy pregnancy thoughts running through my brain.

Wordless Wednesday

I'm not really sure if I am big on wordless wednesday, especially because I've already ruined it by writing this very sentance. However, I do wish I was here...

Second Trimester!

Okay, so when does the second trimester actually begin? Because there are three different schools of thought on this (by development, conception, and gestation) I decided to turn to one of my handy dandy TTC websites and this is what I got:

  Date
Estimated Due DateSeptember 8, 2011
Conception/OvulationDecember 16, 2010
Pregnancy TestDecember 30, 2010
Baby's First Heartbeat January 13, 2011
2nd Trimester Begins (Weeks 13-26)March 3, 2011
3rd Trimester Begins (Weeks 27-40)June 9, 2011
Quickening Begins (~16-24 Weeks) Between March 24, 2011 and May 19, 2011
Viability (24 Weeks) May 19, 2011
Pregnancy considered term if deliveredBetween August 18, 2011 and September 22, 2011
Gender Ultrasound (~18-20 Weeks) Between April 7, 2011 and April 21, 2011
Maternity clothes may need to be consideredStarting around March 24, 2011
You will need maternity clothes for:
Spring, Summer and Autumn
So, according to this timeline, I am already in my second tri- (yaay!) and maternity clothes are 17 days away (-__-). It's not that I have anything against maternity clothes, but I don't find too many clothes that are all that fashionable. Just because I'm pregnant, doesn't mean I have to look frumpy!

13 weeks!

We've reached another milestone!

We are almost done with the first trimester. I'm so excited! According to The Bump, our little one is forming teeth and vocal cords and is about the size of a peach :) Baby Center, where this photo is  from, reports that at 13 weeks weeks, fingerprints have formed. It is so so exciting to see how baby grows each week.

So, I'm trying out my belly update questions. I may change them- I'm not really sure if I'll keep this but it's worth trying it out:

Pregnancy: 13 weeks (I'm not quite ready for the public belly pics just yet)

Weight Gain: 1 pound

Sleep: Getting better. Last night I didn't get up to go to the bathroom!

Gender: Team Green

Name: not picked out yet

Feeling: Still a little lethargic. I also feel extremely bloated still.

Health: So far, so good, although I've been experiencing back aches during the day. Most of the time once I'm home it subsides, but not always.

Movement: Not yet, but I can't wait!

Belly: Pokes out! I sometimes think I look more pregnant than I am, but I am sure it is mostly bloat. No stretch marks- and hopefully it stays that way.

Next Appointment: March 24... 20 more days :( I feel like it is so far away. I am aware that infrequent appointments are a good thing, so I'm counting my blessings. At our last appointment my doctor told me if I felt like seeing the baby I could come in at anytime- just call and I can come in. That's a relief, but I am going to try to stick it out as much as possible. I am sure there are women who have real emergencies so, I'll leave the doctor's time to them.

Finally, I made the big announcement to the rest of my co-workers today. While I wanted to wait until now to tell them, I am glad the cat is out of the bag :) While I work with a great group of people, I think now they will be more appreciative of my frequent trips to the bathroom and food breaks now that there is a reason to go with it. Surprisingly work was the only place where I didn't get the third degree about weight gain, bloating, and the likes. We are all very busy professionally and personally to notice anyone else's weight gain, but it was nice to have a break from the constant questioning.

This weekend should be pretty easy going for me. I am looking forward to dinner with my family. Hope you all enjoy your weekend!

Nursery Notes: The crib

Who doesn't love baby stuff?! It's always so cute and little and makes you all warm and fuzzy inside. I've been mostly window shopping so far. The only purchases I've made for baby so far are the gift bibs that was bought for my hubby, the gift bibs bought for my parents, and the frame bought for my MIL. Which I hope my parents give the bibs to the baby to actually use once he or she is born! On Sunday, I bought 3 books from vendors who were at my church. However I have been wanting to buy more. According to thebump.com I have 192 day left 'til my due date. That does not seem like a lot of time to me. We still have to paint the nursery, move out all the extra and unnecessary stuff, etc. then we have to get all baby stuff in there! I've been mostly concerned about the crib and stroller/car seat.

I know for sure that I want a convertible lifetime crib. I think this will suit us better than buying a new bed for every stage of baby's sleeping life. I've found a few that I like so far but narrowing it down is going to be a job :( I'm also waiting for the newest issue of baby bargains to help us make our decision. I think I'm going to go with something along the lines of this:

I like how the back is solid so it will actually look like a headboard once converted to the daybed/ toddler bed. I also wanted an expresso color as I find that to be a bit more gender neutral. I am hoping that baby bargains + cpsc will help us get the best crib for our little one. Until then I'll continue enjoying window shopping.

It's National Pancake Day!

I didn't get to celebrate today, but you still have time to. IHOP is giving away free short stacks of pancakes until 10 pm. I'll continue sitting on my couch catching up on sleep while you all enjoy free pancakes.  Next Tuesday is fat Tuesday- the pregame to the lent season. I won't be fasting this season because I wouldn't be the only one fasting but the lent season is always interesting in my church.

In other news- Wendy Williams is going to be on the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars! I love the show and am a fan of Wendy Williams.  There are a few others I'm interested to see this season- Romeo, Kendra, Kristie Alley, and Sugar Ray Leonard. I'm interested to see how everyone does. I really think this show is a popularity contest- but entertaining nonetheless.

Lastly, tomorrow is my one week blogiverssary!!! I know that's not much compared to the likes of those attending the blogher conferences but I'm proud of what I've accomplished thus far. I feel a lot better at times being able to vent. My husband has been great but I'm sure he's tired of all the baby related references. Thanks for being my outlet- even if it's only one of you so far :)

Love,

The Mrs.
