Dear Chicken Wing,

I'm linking up with Becky again this week. But somehow I got my dates wrong and this was supposed to be published last week but eh... I'm still gonna post it. I feel like it took me forever to write this one and I probably didn't say everything that I wanted to but it's a start! This is a letter to my 16 year old self. Time machine- please take this letter to Friday 9/10/1999.

Hello Gorgeous! Yes... Gorgeous. You are beautiful! Sometimes people aren't saying it just because it's a nice thing to say. Have some more confidence in yourself. Sure, you may not like certain features about yourself but no one will ever nit-pick over yourself the way you do. I know Mom and Dad aren't really big on it but perhaps you can try to get into a little make-up. Ask mom to take you on a mommy-daughter date and you guys can go to Mac or Sephora together. You don't have to be outlandish like Colleen (save that for your wedding) but eyeliner nerve hurt anyone. You have a way with words... convince her and then go to lunch :)

Working Mama

*this post was started so long ago so don't be confused if the dates are off. I never published it because I 'lost' a picture essential to this post. Since I've found it (and I'm about to become a SAHM and then became a working mama again)  I'm  just going to publish it the way it is- because that's  how things were at that point in my life. Things are a little different now.*

Written July 2012

I've been back at work for a little over 3 8 9 months now and it's coming to an end. Being on maternity leave was bitter sweet. I loved every single moment (good and bad, frustrating and rewarding) bonding with my little guy. I think he really knows who I am now! We've gotten to learn so much about each other and had a blast! And then there were times when I longed to do things like peruse the internet. Sometimes I did this from my phone while I rocked him or at night when my brain wouldn't shut off, but sometimes you just need an actual computer.

Since I've been back at work I have to learn to juggle and balance like a professional circus act. I don't always get it right but then again when is everything supposed to be perfect? So what's a day in the life of a working mama like? well here goes...

Bedtime usually looks a little like this:

Summa, Summa, Summatime!

Can you tell I loved this past summer?! I honestly expected this to be only one post and then start this week off ushering in fall. But Alas- I haven't even told you about August!

So let's see. August began with the second anniversary of my HHJ. Nothing to write home about- mainly because I haven't been "on it" like I prefer. Right now I'm just trying to maintain. I stopped and started so many times but that's all part of a journey...right?
And for reference

23 months... Wha?!! Bring on cryfest

Told you I didn't realize how much fun we had this summer! So there's more I wanted to share and yesterday's post was getting lengthy. July bought more summer memories. Actually I think I was looking forward to July all year :)

Bye Summer, It's been real!

Looking back... this summer was pretty much Epic. I can't believe how much fun we had! During the summer I felt rushed and like I didn't have enough time to enjoy it but thanks to my handy camera I realize we had an amazing summer! There are only two things I wish I could have accomplished but otherwise- it wasn't bad at all!  We we will have some great memories of Summer 2013:

This guy turned 21 months...

Who I absolutely adore....

I went to a bridal shower for a friend of mine who actually started out as my hubby's co-worker. I love when relationships blossom in that way.

I know, I know. Thanksgiving isn't even here yet... Hell, neither is Halloween! But it's one of my favorite holidays and I plan all year for it. I've already taken advantage of holiday sales from throughout the year and I've got a few presents already wrapped up and hidden :)

This year I wanted to do something a little special for my husband. He tells me I always get too stressed out over Christmas and I need to enjoy the holiday more for what it is. Now granted, he's right but I do enjoy the holiday even without all the fan-fair.

I also wanted to do a little more decorating. We'll likely be spending Christmas out of town but I know my mom wouldn't care if I turned her living and dining room into a Christmas explosion. We do lots of traditional decorating but this year I am hoping to do some things a little different.

And then there's my little guy. My hope is to take him and his cousin out on a Christmas tree farm for some Christmas fun Thanksgiving weekend. I really want a fresh holly wreath to put on our front door this year. And, I'm also thinking of giving him his own "tree" to decorate this year:

I know, I'm worse than the department stores. But I can't help it!

C'mon there must be something you plan for way ahead of time for... let me know in the comments!

Birthday on Birthdate

Birthday week continues with more recapping of our celebrations... I told you first birthdays are a big deal.

So on the day of his actual birthdate, we did a bit of minor celebrating.

Honestly, I couldn't believe a year had passed. I survived my first year of parenthood and had a healthy, happy baby to show for it. I woke up that morning feeling grateful and in awe. We still had to get ready for church but I took a peaceful and quite moment to Thank God for one of my greatest blessings. I was counting down the minutes until 10:08 am when my little guy would officially turn one. At the moment the clock struck 10:08 I scooped him up in my arms and sang Happy Birthday to him. Then I cried. It was a joyous moment for me reflecting on his birthday and how it had gotten a little scary for a bit but we made it through.

I think I sang Happy Birthday to him 20 more times that day.

At church that day, there was a special function

Birthday party in pictures

the fun stuff.

Okay this is what you really care about. All the drama and hoopla is overshadowed by the fact that my little guy, my baby boy turned 1!!!! And trust me, you'll want to read this one to the end :D The party planner in me LOVES this part. So many people told me they were impressed and thought it was cute.

Ok, so here are the deets. Every birthday boy needs a birthday shirt, right?

1st Birthday Party In Words

**from 9/9/12**

I can't believe this day has come and gone in the blink of an eye. It was almost as fast as my wedding day. I didn't have much time to reflect and be sappy about things because we were in the midst of so many changes. However, I will admit that I had been planning this for months- or at least coming up with ideas. I wish I had done a few things sooner but you live and learn.

Theme:

For this momentous occasion, I chose a Dr. Seuss theme.

Happy SECOND Birthday!!!

Wow! This day has come a little faster than I had hoped. But nonetheless I am so happy that it is here!!!

Much to my dismay- I'll probably be going to work for the first half of the day then  from there we'll be playing it by ear. However, I have some much awaited posts scheduled for this week- it's birthday week here and I am so excited (cause you know my birthday is only 5 days away). I'm going to be sharing all the details of my son turning one hopefully to be followed up by all the details of him turning two (although I doubt it- just look at my track record).

Please take a moment and give my little guy a Happy Birthday shout out in the comments below- I know he'll be thrilled!

Thoughts on Thursday

So here we are. At that point yet again.

That point where things get so busy that something has got to give. As much as I love this little ol' blog it's always the first to be put on hold.

I know it's really not that big of a deal but I still feel bad.

So much has been happening - I'm not sure I'll be able to recap it all!
