30 Days of Thanks

Days 1 through 6. You know what? I'm definitely going to keep it real and say this: This week was hard! Part of the reason why it was so hard is because I put limits on myself. Last week was all about the people I am thankful for in my life, this week was all about the "stuff" that is so ever present that I almost forget that it's something that not ever one has... in a way.

{DAY 7} My home. There's not a day that goes by where I'm not thankful that we live in a beautiful home, on a lot surrounded by grass.
We have the blessing to raise our son in a safe neighborhood and for that I am grateful. This wasn't always the case. I know what it's like to hear gunshots in the middle of the night, I know what it's like for people to give you the side eye when you tell them where you live, and I know what it's like for friends and family who don't come visit simply because they're scared.

{DAY 8} Being a two car household. Seriously. This is a huge blessing for us. My brother had gotten into an accident a few years back and his car needed to go into the shop. So I let him borrow my car. For 3 weeks. Yep, that's what big sisters do. My hubby and I car pooled and planned like the best of them! Needless to say- I'm glad we aren't doing that any more. However, the bright side was that we were able to save a little in gas.

{DAY 9} Food. There's no hiding the fact that I'm a foodie. My husband? He's also a foodie. And we're turning this precious little boy into a foodie as well. It's often around this time of year when the food drives are amped up and you find yourself buying endless amounts of cereal and canned good all to give to those who don't know where their next meal is coming from.

{DAY 10} Being employed. This isn't about to turn into a political forum but I know there are a ton of people who would voluntarily be in my shoes. I will often complain about the nature of my job but truth be told- I'd rather being complaining about my job than complaining that I don't have one.

{DAY 11} My sad, sad wardrobe. And you see that's just it! As much as I hate my wardrobe- I am sure it is chock full of things that others don't have. And for that I am grateful.

{DAY 12}Breath. My breath. I think of all the times that a car accident was avoided, the time I walked into (or out of we're still not sure) of a house just moments after burglary had taken place (unbeknownst to us), the times when the news is reporting another mass shooting. Just knowing at any time it could be me scares me sometimes. But I'm grateful that it wasn't my car, my house, my mall, my school. We will soon be approaching the first anniversary of the shootings at the Connecticut Elementary school and this holiday season- I will be thankful that I'm not being mourned.
