2014 recap survey

I've done this in years past and love the way it challenges me to reflect on the past year.

2013 Survey
2012 Survey

1. What did you do in 2014 that you’d never done before?

We visited NOLA!!! New Orleans, Louisiana
That was so much fun. I wish I had a chance to recap that here. But here is a few pictures from that trip.

Looking back on these few pic- I might just have to recap this trip in pictures at a later date. I had the hugest smile on my face while going through them.

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I'm pretty sure I didn't make a resolution for 2014. I've stopped making hem recently because... why bother, lol! I'm one of those people who go to the gym every January. If anything my 2015 resolution will be to drink more water. I pretty much suck at that and that needs to not be something that I suck at.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
One of my cousins gave birth to a baby girl. Two friends of mine also gave birth one boy one girl. I think that about sums it up!

4. Did anyone close to you die?
I have a cousin who lost her battle with breast cancer. Although I wasn't close to her that doesn't make that any easier to say.

I had an older cousin who passed away from a long illness as well. Their funerals were the same weekend.

A good family/church friend of ours unexpectedly passed away as well. While she was an older lady (in her 70's I believe) she seemed to be in good health. Of course all we know is what she chose to disclose but still. It shocked a lot of people to the core. This lady was one of the first caregivers I chose for my son when I had to go back to work. She was a caregiver to so many of the children at our church and some of their little minds were saddened by the fact that they wouldn't be able to see her again. The last time I saw her was September 21. I had absolutely, positively no idea at all that it would in fact be the last time. She was leading a church event scheduled to take place on December 6. She didn't make it. That certainly puts things in perspective- your future is not promised.

5. Did you visit anywhere exciting?
I love traveling. I like it so much that I have about 3 vacation days left going into 2015. It's funny and sad all at the same time. At my current job we accrue vacation days and unfortunately (or fortunately- depends on how you look at it) I started using them as soon as I got them. And as soon as I accrue two more days- we are heading out of town! Anyway here's the run down:

1. New Orleans, Louisiana
2. Baltimore, Maryland
3. King of Prussia, PA
4. Some place on Long Island (this was for a wedding- we didn't stay overnight)
5. Atlanta, GA (twice)
6.  Cape Cod, MA (so glad we got the chance to go back!)

These places may not be that exciting on paper but they were a blast while I was there!

6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?
I have live by the motto of being thankful for what I have. It's very easy to get caught up with the Jones' and I'm not about that life. With that being said my answer is I have everything I need. Now, that's not to say I wont be doing things that I love (like going on vacation) but I don't feel like I am "lacking" in anything.

7. What date from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
December 2nd, 2014. And I don't know if that is because it was very recent or just because I have a horrible memory. January 2014 seems so long ago I can't imagine remotely remembering anything that went on that month. And that's not to say that anything significant that was memorable enough to be remembered at any time didn't happen. But let's face it. I have to remember to go get gas after work, stop by the ATM, send in payment for hubby and son's sweatshirts, call the eye doctor, call the dentist, send off two more New Year's cards, and type up and email the minutes from my last parent meeting. So yea...

 So 12/2/14 it is.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Chiiiiile! I'm just gonna skip right on over this cause I didn't do anything to write home about.

Buuuut...I want to say how happy I am for my Dad. This year he made his dream of retirement come true. He took an early retirement and I think it was one of the best moments of his life. I wanna retire like him when I grow up. It is worth mentioning that this was an early retirement and my dad isn't really of typical retirement age just yet. So he still gets to live out his "working years" doing amazing things that I don't see some retired people do (and that probably might because because they choose to do that not necessarily because of lack of funds). When he first told us he was going to do this I made him promise not to say "I'm on a fixed income". I realize that is an unavoidable way of life for some people but it doesn't seem "fair".

9. What was your biggest mistake?
Everything I do- I try to do with intention. That's not to say that I don't make mistakes but those "mistakes" help me grow, learn, and become stronger. Now with that being said.... Nothing.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
My allergies still are not under control. I've had bronchitis, Laryngitis (and it was bad), emergency IV fluids (but that was my fault, see #2), and colds. But nothing that required surgery or overnight hospitals stays and for that- I'm grateful.

I did also find out that one of my Fallopian tubes are blocked. So I guess we can consider that an injury of some sort?

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My hubby's Christmas present. He was so excited on Christmas morning. I wish I had caught it on camera. As much as I love shopping, I go big for Christmas. It's likely my favorite holiday!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I think I skipped this question last year. But if I can toot my own horn for a minute: My son is the most well behaved, smart, funny, and personable little guy I've met in a long time. I think we might be raising him right!

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
It's always something in the news. Why are people in this world acting like it's 1953? WHY?!?!?!

14. Where did most of your money go in 2013?
Again- household finances. One day the answer to this question will be a retirement account.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Travelling. And we did a lot of it. I hope we can continue.

16. What song will always remind you of 2013?
All about that bass by Meghan Trainor. My son LOVES that song! He knows almost all the words now and it is too adorable when he sings it! when he gets to

"Boys like a little more booty to hold at night"

He giggles intensely and says "oooh I said booty!" Makes me laugh every.single.time!

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
Through!

Sometimes my extended family can be a bit ridiculous and I just cannot determine why. I love them dearly but not everyone always makes the best decisions and its quite annoying. Most of it doesn't have a direct impact on me but it does have some sort of indirect impact. I do have a couple of theories but I still cannot wrap my head around some of the crazy.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Praying, Blogging, Exercising, Saving. Sleeping.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Time wasting, sitting at work (but only if I still get paid), figuring out how to fix the craziness.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
At my parents house. With my family. It was great! We cooked, opened presents in our matching PJ's, hosted dinner with more family, and overall had a great time. Yep, it's my favorite holiday.

21. Did you fall in love in 2014?
Is this a trick question? Speaking of in love. Hubby and I celebrated our 10th dating anniversary last year. Whoa.

22. What was your favorite TV program?
Whenever someone asks me If I've seen a particular television program or movie, I always say "all I have time to watch is my child and the back of my eyelids." This still applies.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nooo. That's a bit much. Although my "circle" has gotten a little bit smaller it's not about hate but more about growth, And sometimes people just grow apart.

24. What was the best book you read?
Green Eggs, and Ham. This was my answer last year and not only is it still funny... it's still true.

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
These questions are loaded but I like Sam Smith. I hope he wins best new artist at the Grammy's. When do those nominations come out?

26. What did you want and get?
Whenever I want something I make it happen. So I will say everything.

27. What did you want and not get?
Ok, maybe not everything from #26. I want a bigger retirement account and to take my son to the Meadowlands fair and Sesame Place.

28. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
My family came to visit me!!! I was so happy! I love when they visit- we always have fun. I'm pretty sure you know how old I turned. I've been saying that i want to take a trip one year for my birthday. I'm going to aim to do that in another 4 years.

29. What’s one thing that would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I believe everything happens for a reason. I have no reason to complain about 2014. So the only real good answer I have for this is doing want I didn't get to do in #27. But those are materialistic and not important enough to be considered immeasurable.

30. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
Awful. Don't judge me.

31. What kept you sane?
No change with this one either. My husband. He always keeps me sane. Except for when he drives me insane.

32. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I wanna say Jesse Williams. But quite honestly I didn't read every single rant, tweet, or statement he issued so I'm not 100% sure I agree with everything but just on the strength that he makes a lot of sense (and looks good while doing it)- he wins! You likely know him as "Avery " or Dr. Avery.. who knows I stopped watching Grey's Anatomy years ago when the original cast dwindled down to like 2 people. If you have no idea what I'm talking about this link will help.

33. What political issue stirred you the most?
I really believe the NYPD is collectively acting like disrespectful school children. I believe there is a way to get your point across without throwing a temper tantrum. I love the boys in blue but also believe there needs to be some sort of balance between good and "evil". Not everyone (me included) is out to get them or cause them harm. I personally appreciate the risk officers take to protect us. But why does "us" have to be exclusive to certain people. Everyone deserves the same fair and just treatment. If you get caught not doing that then own up to your mistakes and fix it. Instead they are "attacking" the mayor instead of their internal policies which is the real issue- not the mayor and his opinion. Grow up.

34. Who do you miss the most?
My grandparents will likely always top this list. I feel like some of the issues to be had with my family wouldn't exist if my grandfathers would put their foot in some behinds.

35. Who was the best new person you met?
Ok, lemme think. I'm pretty sure I've met some new people. In my line of work I actually meet way too many new people for my liking.

And now that I've thought about it everyone in my life are tried and true people I want to be there. I'm keeping it that way!

36. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013?
Let it go! And nope, not the frozen version.

37. What are your new years resolutions for 2014?
Didn't I answer this in #2?

And still... Why does this survey end on an odd number?? Does anyone have three more questions I can answer??
