Laughter- it's good for the soul

Eh,

I have been MIA for a bit. I am still trying to restore order to my life after the whirlwind that was a 2 weeks Christmas vacation. I wanted to pop in for a moment to share this. It made me laugh out loud and sometimes you need to laugh- it's good for the soul.

Pinspiration for my HHJ

I'm stuck in a hair rut. This isn't new and in fact happens every couple of months. There are days when I want to cut it or put it into cornrows withe extensions added for length. Once, I've eve caught myself thinking abut going natural! I don't think that'll happen at anytime but I'll never say never. Being in a hair rut sometime causes me to unnecessarily hating my hair. I'm almost desperate guys!

Over the weekend I was thinking about what I should be doing with my hair when it hit me. I knew I had a pin on my Glam Momma board that I could easily do to take me out of a hair rut (at least for a few days). So I went searching and found the pin I was thinking of:

It's my blogiversary y'all!!!

I definitely thought I would have way more fan fare surrounding my blogiversary but I am in such a sleep deprived stupor (maybe more on this later)- I just can't.

To celebrate, I thought about doing a new blog design, doing a giveaway, all sorts of things. But clearly none of that has panned out.

Anywhoo. If you haven't been here from the begining check out my very first post. Just as expected, I am almost a whole different person now.

So to celebrate I'm going to ask a few things of you- it's not manadatory or anything but it would be a nice gift-plus it would make me smile.

Can you network me?? Okay, I just made that up. But really can you like, follow, and follow me again? Thanks!

I know some of you may think this is the silliest thing ever- but for some reason I think it's a big deal to 'pinned'. It means that you wrote/crafted/wore/cooked/baked/blogged about something that someone, somewhere felt a need to bookmark to reference later.

You also end up getting a TON of blog traffic. So if you are here from Pinterest "HI"!!!! Hope you stay awhile :)

As much as Pinterest can be good for blog/website promotion there is another side to this story. I came across a post about how Pinterest effects bloggers by way of one of my go to blogs (to hone in my dessert diva skills). If you are a blogger that posts photos of any sort, I would highly suggest that you read what she has to say. I don't have any "creative"/ "original" work that could necessarily be stolen but I do however have what I consider to be precious pictures of my little one. Remember in this post I shared a pinned of the cutest little guy with a quote to match his facial expression? Well, where did it come from? Does his mother know that he is one of the popular pins for that day? I've also seen the same picture with different (but not so noteworthy) quotes edited on it. Did she okay this?

The point of pinterest is to be able to 'bookmark' things you like all in one place- without cluttering up your favorite links on your browser. So once you click on a pin it is supposed to take you to the source webpage for that item. Example: you are surfing the web for St. Patrick's Day food to make and you come across a great recipe for corned beef and cabbage. You can 'pin' the accompanying picture for that recipe. When times comes and you need to make reference to the recipe then you click on the picture from your Pinterest account and it links you back to the webpage.

Problem is some people are misusing this. Like the picture of that little boy- when you click on the Pinterest pin it doesn't take you to a webpage. You just arrive at a bigger picture. See the problem? The original source is not being properly credited for the picture, nor does anyone know about the origin of the picture, the quote, the boy- nothing. this problem get way deeper than that for bloggers who feature original works, like crafts, recipes, etc.

So if this blog doesn't feature any original "you should do this" work, why am I concerned? Well, because that little boy could have been my little boy. With no reference to this blog, permission from me, or without my knowledge. while I am not necessarily concerned about blog traffic- I just wouldn't want him to be circulated around the internet haphazardly. I do take care to watermark pictures of him- especially where his face is prominently featured, however I am still concerned. I am sure most of the pinners don't mean any harm but you never know who could stumble upon something with ill intent.

So maybe I haven't arrived. I am not sure how I am proceeding from here. This makes me question how I choose to share my 365 day photo challenge. I have still taken a photo of him everyday. I will admit I have fallen behind in the editing because- right now I have no accountability (as in a weekly post). With the one year anniversary of my blog coming up I think I need to re-evaluate. Not only in the way I share pictures but also in the way in which I use it as well. I have in no way been compromised as Amy has but I wanted to re-evaluate any way. I'm sure it's going to be a long process, because nothing I do is easy, but I've been wanting to do that anyway.

I wanted to add to this but didn't want to do another full post on it. I found another great resource for anyone who is now questioning the likeness of Pinterest. I hope we get answers soon and straighten this out.

I'm particularly saddened that I didn't get to blog about a recent significant holiday:

I want my son to know how important the celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday is- it's not just an extra day off. I can't wait to take him to the King Center in Atlanta and I myself would LOVE to visit the King Memorial in D.C.- despite all of the controversy surrounding it.

Today the Internet went black. Well sort of- and this is the thing: I kind of have no idea what's going on. I'd like to blame in on the fact that I'm a mom, but it's really more of the fact that I just don't have everything quite down pact yet. I'm still figuring out how to get everything done (or at least the essentials) and still spend time with my son and husband. I'm back to work now (more on this another day) and finding the balance between home and work has been elusive. I'm sure I'll get it- Noah didn't build the ark in one day. Needless to say- I have a DVR full of unwatched television shows (I'm sure it's at about 80% full or my husband has been sneaking and deleting my shows). So, I'm embarrassed to say type acknowledge that I have no idea what SOPA and PIPA is- I'm glad there is someone in this world concerned about our #firstworldproblems and protesting. And in case you've been living under baby poop, milk, and teething rings go to wikipedia (the English version) and google right now (January 18 is the only day they are doing it as far as I know). Yea- crazy. Even craigslist and Pinterest have joined in. I would sit here and think of random websites to go to but who has time for that?

I'm a Beyonce fan... not quite a Stan. Well maybe. I used to think I was Beyonce on weekends. Okay, I know that sounds weird but whatever. I know there are a great deal of people who don't necessarily care for her, or her music, or celebrity- but I find most of her songs to be very catchy, I think she's quite fashionable and she gorgeous and gracious. I admire her drive. I remember in an interview she stated she wanted to be the first person to win a Grammy, Oscar, and a Tony- that's ambition. She's found a goal and is working toward it. I definitely think she can do it. We all know of her insane amount of Grammy's and she came so close to that Oscar- she will find another role that will take her to the top (although Dreamgirls may be the only movie I truly liked her as an actress. We won't bring up Obsessed). I also believe that like many other successful singers (Sheryl Lee Ralph) when she's done with the main stream spotlight- she can make it on Broadway.

So my point...

I'm kind of getting sick of the recent news of her giving birth. I mean I will read or watch legitimate news, good news. Every since she announced her pregnancy there has been so much gossip surrounding the ordeal that I actually at this point feel bad for her. She has been accused of wearing a fake baby bump and using a surrogate to avoid 'ruining her body', She's been ridiculed for continuing to wear heels throughout the pregnancy, there have been reports of giving birth in December to a 'Tiana May Carter' (although I think this was just a twitter rumor). It has been reported that her security caused some inconveniences to the parents of newborn babies in NICU. I have no idea what's true and what's not because I haven't been there to witness any of it. But I draw the line at going after newborn babies.

Really?? Really?? Seriously???

If I new someone had said something so malicious about my little boy when he was born not only would I be extremely hurt and disgusted- but I might just flip my lid. I get that celebrities are targets of all sorts of craziness but this was just plain unnecessary. Especially because we are all born into sin (Psalm 51:5) singling out a child who has no idea of the life she was born into is just plain wrong. And an inappropriate jab at her parents nonetheless.

I really just want it all to stop. I really feel bad for baby Carter's family and if she ever googles her name in the distant future- how is her parents going to explain that, although I'm sure in her lifetime they will be explaining a lot due to their high profile lives. I wish them lots of love (which has already been expressed in Jay-Z's "Glory") and I hope they do decide to do an interview- in their own time- just to let their fans know how blessed they are ( I know they don't owe it to us) and let those who care share in their joy.

It's makeover time!!!!

I've been jonesing for a blog holiday makeover. I actually like to switch it up every now and again. So... what do you think???

I did it myself so it's okay if you say it looks horrible. I know a few elements don't match but I'm teaching myself HTML code and I have to take it one step at a time.

So let's talk about some updates. FMTM (from mrs to mom- cause I needed to clarify that) is now social networking!!! What's a blog without social networking and an Etsy shop? Nope don't worry I'm not selling any handmade crafts cause...well... you don't want to see how that would turn out. But go on, don't be afraid- you can email me, like me, follow me, and pin my stuff. No, really I need at least 25 likes on facebook to get a vanity url. What's that? It would be www.facebook.com/frommrstomom- yea that instead of a bunch of random numbers. If you follow me on twitter- I will follow back but I'm still learning how to navigate the twitter thing and I'm sure most of  my tweets don't make sense. But I'm obsessed with #hashtags and will #hashtag just about anything. I'm not on pinterest that often cause I don't have time to peruse all the great things out there cause I got a baby that needs feeding and changing. But I'm sure once I'm back at work that will change (shhhh... don't tell them).

Oh! and I'm doing the instagram thing too but I haven't got the patience to be posting pictures all day long so I'll just look at yours. Search for FromMrstoMom until I figure out how to link my profile in this blog.

I added my social networking profile to the right ------> in Christmas Ornaments! How cute!!!

It took me days to figure out how to change my background paper and jazz up those stupid ornaments. I cant imagine how much more time I need to add candy canes, boughs of holly and all that jazz- but still I can't believe how far I've come in self-taught HTML.


I'm sorry that's it for now. I was so proud of myself I had to do a whole post to unveil it and now as I'm writing it I feel like it's kind of a let down. Oh well at least this little guy showed up to help put the star on top of the tree...
